Abstract

In order to reduce erosion by water droplets in an axial flow steam turbine by reducing the wetted blade area, the rotor and stator blades in a stage are arranged so that the product of the number of stator blades 35 in a row and the axial width a of said stator blades divided by the radial length h of the rotor blades 13 in the next downstream row is at the most 12, and the ratio of the width a to the length h is at the most 0À15. The axial distance b between the trailing and leading edges of the stator and rotor blades respectively is equal to or greater than the width a of the stator blades. The stator blades taper in the radially outward direction. Blade numbers and dimensions are quoted.
