Abstract

The invention is a modification of that described and claimed in Specification 994,087. A flexible polyurethane contains as a fire retardant a compound either of formula ArBrmCln or ArBrmClnOR in which Ar is an aryl radical and R is hydrogen, or an alkyl, alkenyl, aryl or aralkyl radical which may be halogenated. m is 1 or more and n is 0 or an integer. The compound has at least two nuclear bromine atoms per molecule and the amount of compound incorporated into the polyurethane is such as to provide a Br content of at least 0.5% based on the weight of polyurethane material. The parent Specification used a branched chain polyol to obtain a rigid polyurethane whilst the present invention relates to a flexible polymer obtained from a straight chain polyol.
