Abstract

A multiple operation glass forming machine, e.g. an I.S machine, has automatic control means comprising an electric signal source for generating a signal having a time span representing at least part of a multiple operation forming cycle, signal monitoring means arranged to respond to the generated signal and to generate control pulses indicative of a sequential series of pre-selected cycle times and means responsive to said control pulses for sequentially effecting changes in the forming operations of said machine. As described, an electric signal from a pulse generator is fed into a pulse selector such as a counter. The counter, which may be a binary counter, contains hundreds, tens and units stages each having ten terminals. Selected terminals of each stage are connected to pulse selecting sections corresponding in number, i.e. 19 for an I.S. machine, to the number of operations to be controlled. Each section includes an AND gate which emits a pulse when it receives three coincident pulses from the counter. This emitted pulse is used to actuate the associated machine operation by means of an amplifier, solenoid and fluid energy valve. The control system simplifies adjustments to the timing cycle, adjustments requiring merely the changing of the connections to the counter. A single control means may control several machines.
