Abstract
1,074,602. Automatic train control. SIEMENS A.G. Jan. 18, 1966 [Jan. 26, 1965], No. 2398/66. Heading B7N. Vehicle positional information is passed from a vehicle to a store at a central control station and control instructions from the station are passed to the vehicle via a cable K which is connected in turn via switches F 1 ... F n to loops S 1 ...S n positioned in succession adjacent the vehicle track. During the-period switch F 1 is closed a signal at frequency f 1 , continuously generated on the vehicle 2 passes via the cable K to the station Z which stores an indication that a vehicle is positioned over loop S 1 . At the same time orders derived by a computer from the stored positional information and serving e.g. to ensure a safe spacing between vehicle 2 and vehicle 1 in advance are transmitted on carrier frequencies # 2 , # 3 , via the cable to the vehicle. The switches may be connected by separate cables to the control station, the cables being energized to close their respective switches in sequence or the switches may be closed via AND gates each connected to a different combination of a number of control cables connected to individual stages of a binary counter at the control station which is fed with a series of timing pulses. The neighbouring ends of the conductor loops may be disposed with wide or narrow gaps therebetween or may overlap and an auxiliary conductor coupled to all the loops and energized at a frequency # 4 may be provided. This signal will be transmitted to the station each time a switch is closed to monitor the operation of the track apparatus and also can be picked up on the train to monitor the train receiving apparatus.
