Abstract

1,074,535. Railway vehicles. M. M. SURI. Oct. 21, 1964 [Nov. 4, 1963], No. 43512/63. Heading B7L. A railway vehicle or bogie, Figs. 1 and 2, has each wheel 6 independently mounted on a steel axle 1 housed in axle bearing housings 2, 2A on a forked bracket 3 pivoted by a pin 9 to the vehicle or bogie frame 5, the wheel being moved laterally by a rubber spring or springs tending to move the wheel flange closer to the rail on which it is traversing. As shown in Fig. 2, the outer races 10A of the axle bearings 10 are mounted in the housings 2, 2A through rubber or resilient synthetic plastic linings or rings 11 which are prestressed in lateral shear so as to urge the axle and wheel outwardly. Before mounting the vehicle on the rails the wheels at each side are spaced a greater distance than the rail gauge. A bolt 14 is tightened at each side of the vehicle, so that the wheels can be spaced at the rail gauge and placed on the rails, whereafter the bolts are released. Coil springs 4 or rubber or leaf springs are disposed between the bogie 5 and the housings 2, 2A.
