Abstract

An a -olefine of formula CH2=CH-(CH2)n-R, wherein R is a branched alkyl, cycloalkyl, or aryl radical containing up to 8 carbon atoms and n is an integer from 0 to 3 provided that n is at least 1 when R is phenyl, is polymerized alone, or with another olefine of the same formula, or with a straight chain C3-C12 a -mono-olefine in an amount of less than 20%, is polymerized at a temperature between 0 DEG and 100 DEG C. using a catalyst mixture of TiCl3 and diethylaluminium chloride in the presence of hydrogen or other chain transfer agent until a polymer having a molecular weight of 3000-8000 is obtained. In the examples, 4-methyl-pentene-1 is homopolymerized and copolymerized with propylene, and 4-methyl-hexene-1 is homopolymerized.
