Abstract

1,065,338. Fire alarm systems. J. E. LINDBERG. March 15, 1966 [April 26, 1965], No. 11363/66. Heading G4N. A fire alarm system comprises a pair of normally open detector switches 50, 51, e.g. of the gas evolving type, connected in series with an alarm indicator 20 between a supply line 12 and earth, each switch being shunted by a " caution ' indicator 31, 32, or 36, 37. The alarm indicator has a low impedance compared with the caution indicators so that closure of both switches lights alarm lamps 20, and closure of only one actuates only the caution indicator associated with the other. The switches may be arranged to operate at different temperatures so that a " caution " indication is first given and, after a further rise in temperature, the alarm 20 is operated. The alarm 20 may be supplemented by a relay 26 operating an acoustic alarm. Actuation of one of the cautions may be caused by a fault condition by actuation of test switches 41, 42, 43 to disconnect either detector and replace it by a short circuit. A manual test switch 64 is also provided which actuates relay 62 to close contacts 65, 66 completing a test heating circuit. Fig. 1 (not shown) relates to a simplified circuit employing any type of thermal switch, and in Fig. 2 (not shown) the manual test relay is omitted.
