Abstract
1,062,857. Electromagnetic brakes. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE DE MATERIEL ELECTROMAGNETIQUE S.A. Nov. 10, 1965 [Nov. 13, 1964], No. 47699/65. Heading F2E. An electromagnetic disc brake comprises a pair of pads 24, 24A movable independently into engagement with opposite sides of a disc 10 by springs 23, 23A and released by electromagnets having fixed yokes 16, 16A and respective armatures 20, 20A to which the pads are respectively secured. Each pad has a backing plate 26 which is adjustable relative to a recessed cylindrical portion 21 of its associated armature by a screw-threaded connection, the adjustment being locked by a peg 29 engageable with either of two grooves 28 in the ends of the backing plate to prevent its rotation. Each moving pad and armature assembly is guided in an aperture in a flange, the two flanges 13, 13A being secured by studs 14 and spacer sleeves 15 to a bracket 12. The yokes 16 are also supported by the flanges 13, 13A via studs 17 and non-magnetic spacers 38, one of which (for each yoke) has a groove into which extends a peg 30 on the associated armature to prevent rotation of the latter. Instead of springs 23, 23A being arranged in bores 18 of the yokes and extending, as shown, between the bottoms of the armature recesses and adjustable threaded plugs 19, pairs of springs 44 (Fig. 7, not shown) may be used at diametrically opposite positions with respect to the yokes which in this embodiment are adjustably secured, by nuts 42, on the ends of guide rods 40 which also guide the armatures, the guide rods being mounted in integral flanges 41 of the fixed bracket. In both embodiments levers 31, 31A are provided for releasing the pads manually through pull rods.
