Abstract
1,061,654. Magnetic separators. ELECTROMAGNETS Ltd. Jan. 11, 1965 [Nov. 6, 1963], No. 43749/63. Heading B2J. In a magnetic separator of the chute type, a feed-regulating cover 13 is disposed above a bed 10 over which the material to be separated is caused to flow and to be subjected in flow to the influence of magnets, such as electromagnets 121, the space beneath the cover being open at one end to a feed chute 15 for the material to be treated and at the other end to a discharge outlet A for the treated material or to a discharge outlet B for separated material. The height of the cover above the bed is adjusted by means of studs 16, Fig. 3 (not shown), which at one end screw-threadedly engage in tapped holes of bosses 135 provided in the cover and which at the other end bear against surfaces associated with the bed 10. The bed 10 is provided with a number of upstanding transversely extending sections 101 of triangular cross-section forming pockets for the collection of separated magnetic material, the surfaces 103 of the sections 101 being engaged by the studs 16. The underside of the cover 13 is provided with transversely extending sections 131 also of triangular cross-section whose surfaces 132 are parallel with the surfaces 102 of the bed sections 101. The cover forms with the bed a funnel-shaped entry 133, 134 for receiving the material from the feed chute 15. A pivotally mounted bridge member 17 is provided at the discharge end of the separator and is operated by solenoid devices 18, Fig. 2 (not shown), to open the outlet A for treated material and simultaneously close outlet B for the separated magnetic material. Springs 19 act on the member 17 to close the outlet A when the electromagnets 121 are deenergized. When the latter are energized, the solenoid devices 18 are also energized and the plungers 181 thereof actuates the member 17 via links 201, 202 and rods 203 to open the outlet A. Instead' of electro-magnets, permanent magnets may be used in which case the bridge member 17 is adapted to be operated manually so as to enable the cover 13 to be raised and a cover for the permanent magnet units to be tilted so that the separated magnetic deposit which has accumulated on the permanent magnet cover can fall by gravity and be diverted into the appropriate discharge outlet by the bridge 17.
