Abstract

1,057,629. Seals. SUPER OIL SEALS & GASKETS Ltd. Dec. 11, 1964 [Dec: 12, 1963], No. 49194/63. Heading F2B. A shaft seal, particularly for a shock absorber, comprises a rubber body 10 having an annular collar 13 with two axially spaced sealing lips 15 and 18, each lip being chamfered as at 16, 17 and 19, 20 to provide a sealing edge substantially centrally of the lip. The lips may be urged inwardly by a rubber band 21 or a garter spring or circlip. In a modification (Fig. 4), a grit excluding lip (24) having a cylindrical sealing surface (24a) is provided at the end of the seal remote from the lip (15).
