Abstract

1,056,923. Corrugating asbestos-cement sheets. TURNERS ASBESTOS CEMENT CO. Ltd. Feb. 18, 1964 [Feb. 18, 1963], No. 6637/64. Heading B5A. Wet asbestos-cement sheets are corrugated in a device comprising a forming table F, rotatable about an axle X, having apparatus for corrugating on its upper and lower sides. Each corrugating apparatus comprises a base carrying an inextensible flexible membrane M, e.g. canvas or nylon, mounted on spring-loaded rollers R and passing through three-roll assemblies RA. Forming rollers C are mounted between the assemblies RA to be raised by pistons in hydraulic cylinders 4. A template T is clamped to each side of the table F by means of clamping members 1 and 2 actuated by pneumatic cylinders 5. Asbestos-cement sheets AC, Fig. 5 (not shown), to be corrugated are fed on to a base, withdrawn from the table by means of lugs 7, Fig. 6 (not shown), on the sheet conveyer 6 which engage an extension 8 of the base. The base is returned to the table by means not shown, the template lowered from a previous raised position and forming effected by raising the rollers C in pairs in sequence starting with the central pair. As soon as the central pair have been actuated the table is rotated to provide a formed sheet on an inverted template, the remaining forming rollers being actuated during inversion. The template together with the formed sheet is lowered on to a trolley V, Fig. 5, by means of cylinders 5 and the trolley is removed and a further trolley with a fresh template is positioned below the table. The fresh template is raised and clamped to the table by the cylinders 5. During the template changing operation the upper corrugating apparatus is charged with a sheet to be corrugated.
