Abstract
1,055,148. Counter. ADDRESSOGRAPHMULTIGRAPH CORPORATION. Sept. 30, 1963 [Feb. 20. 1963], No. 38482/63. Heading G4D. A counter, e.g. for use with an automatic printing or duplicating operation, comprises a rotor 47, reversible drive means whereby the rotor may be driven either in a counting direction or in a setting direction, and digit preselector means comprising a plurality of stops 105 (Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 6, not shown) each stop being movable from a retracted position into an extended position (Fig. 6, not shown) within the range of abutment means 51 mounted on the rotor. As illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) a reversible motor 79 drives gear 77 meshing with gears 27 which through friction clutches 29 drive shafts 21 for each digit counter. To start the motor 79, switch 169 (Fig. 9, not shown) is operated which allows the motor to rotate in the direction of arrow C and places the counter in condition for operation. Whenever the controlled apparatus 177 performs the operation to be counted the switch 173 is closed and opened which sends a pulse via conductors 170, 179 through solenoid 73 of the units assembly thereby permitting one tooth of rotor 47 to escape in the counting direction. Transfer operation.-At one portion of the units shaft 21, a units pin 91 (Figs. 2 and 8, not shown) coacts with switch 81 to close same and there is an overlap in which switches 81 and 173 are closed during which a pulse via conductors 181, 187 and lens solenoid 73 allows tens rotor 47 to escape one tooth. Control (Fig. 9, not shown).-When the tens shaft reaches its " 0 " or control position, the tens pin 91 will also close tens switch 93 (Fig. 8, not shown) and hold it closed. The units counter will continue to decrease until it reaches " 0 " or oontrol position, whereupon units switch 93 is closed by units pin 91. With both switches 93 closed, a control circuit is completed which energizes solenoid 191 to trip the controlled apparatus 177. Setting (Figs. 1 to 6, not shown).-If a number, e.g. 12 is to be set in the counter, button 1 of the tens counter and 2 of the units counter are depressed and held in the depressed state by latch 111. The ends 106 of the buttons are then within the range of abutment 51 such that when manual set button 159 (Fig. 9, not shown) is depressed, the motor 79 and thus rotors 47 rotate in the direction of arrow S. The rotors will be stopped when abutments 51 engage ends 106 and thereafter the drive slips at clutches 29. When button 159 is released the motor will reverse to the count direction C. The ends 106 do not interfere when the rotors are operating in the count direction since abutments 51 idle past them. The push-buttons may be set by solenoids receiving their signals from any convenient source.
