A liquid sprinkler apparatus comprises a distributor having a liquid inlet and a plurality of discharge orifices, and means for vibrating the distributor so that the liquid discharged issues from the orifices and breaks up into drops which are sufficiently large so as not to result in any substantial spray drift, said means including a source of vibration remote from the distributor and a flexible member adapted to transmit vibration from the source to the distributor. The crop spraying apparatus shown may be mounted on a tractor and comprises a tank 1, a frame 2, liquid feed pipes (not shown) and a distributor consisting of four orificed tubes 3, 4, 5 and 6 which are suspended from the frame 2 by webbing flexive strips 7 constructed to permit longitudinal vibratory movement and resist movement in a direction at right angles to the plane of the drawing. The discharge orifices may be disposed so that liquid is discharged either vertically or at an angle to the vertical or a combination of both. Each pair of tubes 3, 4 and 5, 6 is caused indirectly to vibrate by a cam 8 which has two lobes and is mounted for rotation by a drive which may, for example, be derived from a tractor. The cam may have more or less than the two lobes shown. Cam rotation effects vibration of arms 9 each of which carries a cam follower 10 and is pivoted at 11 to the frame 2. Each arm is also connected to the inner wire of a Bowden cable the other end of which is connected to the associated tube at 12. The two ends of the cable sheath are anchored to the frame 2 at suitable points. Each pair of the four tubes is thus caused to vibrate in opposite directions to maintain dynamic balance. The orifice diameter. pitch, and inclination (where the orifice is inclined) may be 1/32 inch, 2 inches and 20‹ below the horizontal. The amplitude and speed of vibration may be 3/8 inch and 1100 v.p.m., respectively. Alternatively the pitch and amplitude may be 4 inches and 1/4 inch. respectively. The means for vibrating the distributor may be actuated electro-magnetically.
