Abstract
1,049,704. Pistons. J. W. SUTCLIFFE. April 29, 1965 [May 9, 1964], No. 19427/64. Heading F2T. A piston for pneumatically operated apparatus comprises a metal core 1 either wholly or partly enclosed by a sleeve 2 of ceramic material having on its exterior surface a pair of flats or recesses 3 each communicating with an air duct 4 in the core, a radial bore 5 being provided in the piston to accommodate an anchoring member of a device to be driven by the piston. The mating surfaces of the core and sleeve may be tapered and the two parts may be secured together by pressure or by a bonding or adhesive agent. The core may be of aluminium and the sleeve may be of P.T.F.E. with a ceramic filler.
