In a modification of the alternator excitation system shown in Fig. 5 (not shown) of the parent Specification, to avoid the use of sliprings feeding the synchronous machine polewheel, the main excitor is modified so that its electrical part 74 rotates with the pole-wheel and its interdigitated poles 73 are stationary. the exciting coil 70 being stationary as before. The core ring 28 is divided into concentric rings 78, 78<SP>1</SP> for this purpose, and the main field rectifier 75 is carried on the pole-wheel.
