Abstract
A cadmium or cadmium alloy surface is treated to inhibit corrosion or tarnishing by contacting it with a solution containing benzotriazole, preferably in the proportion of 0.005-5% by weight of the solvent e.g. water or methylated spirits. The surface, e.g. of cadmium foil or cadmium coating on stainless steel, may be dipped into or sprayed with the solution; or rubbed with an adsorbent material previously soaked in the solution. The surface may be maintained in contact with the solution during use or subsequently withdrawn prior to use.
