Abstract
1,045,396. Thermionic cathode materials and processing. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. July 23, 1965, No. 31516/65. Heading H1D. A thermionic cathode comprises a refractory metal base, a barrier layer of a refractory carbide of a metal having a higher affinity for carbon than does the base metal, and an emissive layer of lanthanum boride. In particular, a directly-heated cathode may comprise a W or Mo filament coated by spraying with a mixture of zirconium carbide. After sintering, an outer layer of lanthanum boride is applied by painting, spraying or electrophoresis. A specific example is given.
