Abstract

1,043,468. Centrifugal pumps. JAMES BERESFORD & SON Ltd. June 10, 1965 [June 25, 1964], No. 26232/64. Heading F1C. [Also in Division H2] A circulating pump, e.g. for hot water heating systems, comprises an enclosed squirrelcage electric motor unit A carrying the pump impeller 12 on its rotor spindle 104, and a pipeline connection unit B having inlet and outlet passages 151a, 152a and pumping chamber 143. The two units are secured together by bolts 142b. The unit B, which may be a metal casting or made of synthetic plastics, has a by-pass passage controlled by a rotatable ported sleeve valve 20. In the unit A, passages 115, 113 communicating with high and low pressure regions of the chamber 143 permit circulation of pumped liquid through the motor for cooling and lubrication purposes. A detachable cover 111 carries a plug 18 which is used for starting a sticking motor and venting the rotor chamber 102 to atmosphere. The pump may be connected by its inlet and outlet conduits 151, 152 to the pipeline by rubber sleeves to insulate against noise and vibration.
