Le véhicule automobile autonome (10) comporte au moins un capteur (2) adapté à détecter des éléments externes au véhicule, un dispositif électronique programmable (4) embarqué adapté à recevoir des informations desdits capteurs, au moins un module de communication radio (6), le dispositif électronique programmable étant configuré pour commander tout déplacement dudit véhicule automobile autonome. Le procédé comprend des étapes de : réception d’un lieu (12) et d’une date d’embarquement d’un client, commande de déplacement du véhicule vers ledit lieu d’embarquement à ladite date d’embarquement, détermination de présence du client (16) sur le lieu (12) et à ladite date d’embarquement, et, en cas de détermination négative, commande de déplacement du véhicule automobile autonome selon un plan de déplacement compatible avec des conditions de trafic routier nominales, et compatible avec un déplacement du véhicule automobile autonome vers ledit lieu d’embarquement (12) ou vers un lieu d’embarquement ultérieur (22), à une date ultérieure calculée.
