Abstract

The spindle (2) has an intermediate zone (13) presenting an elliptic shaped reinforced section of longitudinal dimension higher than its transversal dimension to present increased bending strength to a force applied according to a longitudinal direction (L) on a headrest (1) when the spindle is mounted on the seat back. The intermediate zone occupies all the space between an end zone (11) associated to the headrest and an end zone (12) associated to the seat back, where the rod is obtained from a U shaped tube. An independent claim is also included for an air duct for receiving end zones of a tubular spindle in a sliding manner.

Description

It is known to produce a tubular rod for mounting a headrest on a motor vehicle seat back, said rod having an extreme zone of association with the headrest, an extreme zone of association with the backrest and an intermediate zone, said intermediate zone having a circular section.

Such a section is not optimized to ensure optimum resistance in case of impact of the head of the passenger on the headrest, in a longitudinal direction.

This results in particular the need to provide intermediate zone rods of large diameter and thickness. The invention aims to overcome this disadvantage.

For this purpose, and according to a first aspect, the invention proposes a tubular rod for mounting a headrest on a motor vehicle seat back, said rod having an extreme zone of association with the headrest, an end association zone at the back and an intermediate zone, at least said intermediate zone having a reinforced section of longitudinal dimension greater than its transverse dimension, so as to have an increased flexural strength against a force applied in a longitudinal direction on said headrest once mounted on said folder. In this description, the positioning terms in the space (lateral, vertical, longitudinal, ...) are taken in reference to the vehicle in which the headrest is mounted.

The rod according to the invention has an improvement in its flexural strength in the longitudinal direction, which makes it possible to use an intermediate zone rod of lesser diameter and thickness than when the section is circular, and therefore to gain weight and save material. According to a second aspect, the invention proposes a seat element comprising at least one such rod. According to a third aspect, the invention provides a sheath for slidingly receiving such a rod. Other features and advantages of the invention will appear in the description which follows, with reference to the appended figures in which: FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic representation in perspective of a headrest, according to one embodiment, disposed opposite a sheath, • Figure 2 is a schematic sectional view of a rod according to one embodiment. Referring to the figures, there is now described a tubular rod 2 for mounting a headrest 1 on a motor vehicle seat back, said rod having an extreme zone of association with the headrest 11, a end association zone 12 and an intermediate zone 13, at least said intermediate zone having a reinforced section of longitudinal dimension greater than its transverse dimension, so as to have an increased flexural strength against a force applied in one direction longitudinal L on said headrest once mounted on said folder.
