Abstract

The invention concerns a quantum cascade laser comprising a zone (13) wherein is confined the electric injection into the laser stripe. Said zone is much less wide than the stripe. Thus, the threshold current can be reduced by a factor of about 2, and operate the laser at a temperature of about 200 K with a simple thermoelectric cooler.
