Abstract

This mask comprises means 7, 8, 10, 11 for collecting the fumes, which means are integrated with the shell, and are delimited therewith by a double wall located at the position of the said means, and connected to the said nozzle 5, these means consisting, on the one hand, of a transverse manifold 8, 9 emerging in the front wall 2 of the mask through a transverse slot 7, and, on the other hand, of a peripheral collar 10 projecting outwards and connected to the opposite ends of the said manifold 8, 9, with holes 11 pointing forwards.

Description

 The present invention relates to the capture of welding fumes and it relates more particularly to an improved suction mask for capturing these fumes.

 The capture of welding fumes poses problems and, to solve them, we already know many devices designed to suck fumes at workstations, which generally include a fixed or mobile central vacuum connected by pipes or hoods beneath which the work stations are located, either to adjustable or non-orientable suction nozzles in the vicinity of which the welding operations are carried out.

 These installations are expensive, bulky and compel welders to work as close as possible to the suction means, which is sometimes annoying and they are also relatively ineffective.

 There are also integrated suction welding torches. These devices also have many drawbacks, owing to the fact that they are heavy and bulky, hamper the actions of welders and are therefore tiring and also ineffective.

 The best solution is still the suction mask, to which a flexible suction hose is connected.

 Unfortunately, the different models of suction masks, while offering better efficiency, are not entirely satisfactory and after some time, most welders abandon them.

 To overcome these drawbacks, the invention aims to produce a suction mask for welders, which is light, handy and efficient and, by its ergonomic nature, pleasant to the user.

 The subject of the invention is therefore a suction welding mask of the type comprising a shell provided with a window, a handle and a nozzle at its lower part for the connection of a suction pipe, characterized in that it comprises means for collecting the fumes, integrated into the shell and delimited therewith by a double wall located at the location of said means and connected to said nozzle.

 According to another characteristic of the invention, said means for collecting the fumes are constituted on the one hand by a transverse collector opening into the front wall of the mask by a transverse slot and on the other hand by a peripheral collar projecting towards the exterior and connected to opposite ends of said manifold, having holes directed towards the front.

 According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, said transverse slot extends below the window, approximately in the middle of the height of the mask.

 Preferably, said collar extends around the upper part of the mask over more than half the length of the cheeks thereof.

 According to yet another characteristic of the invention, the manifold is connected to the nozzle by the intermediate part of a double conduit whose branches extend on either side of the handle and are connected to said manifold.

 Advantageously, the mask according to the invention is made of molded material.

 The description which follows, with reference to the accompanying drawings by way of nonlimiting examples, will make it possible to understand clearly how the invention can be put into practice.

 Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the suction mask according to the invention.

 Figure 2 is a view similar to that of Figure 1, but showing the interior of the mask.

 Referring to the drawings, the suction mask 1 according to the invention comprises a shell, for example of plastic material having as a whole an approximately rectangular parallelepiped shape having a front surface 2, side walls or cheeks 3, and an upper wall. 4; it is open at its lower end 5, devoid of wall. The cheeks 3 diverge slightly from the front wall 2, towards the rear.

 As known per se, the mask includes a window 6 provided with a glass, or other transparent material filtering out radiation that is dangerous for the view.

 According to the invention, the mask has on its front wall 2 a transverse slot 7 located approximately halfway up the mask 1, below the window 6.

 Internally, the mask comprises a collector 8 extending transversely opposite the slot 7 and delimited by a wall 9 roughly semi-cylindrical in cross section, attached to the internal face of the front wall 2, or made of material with this by molding.

 The opposite ends of the manifold 8 are extended laterally on the internal faces of the cheeks 3 by parts 9 formed in a similar manner and communicating with a flange 10 having in cross section a semi-tubular shape formed, like the manifold 8, by an element of wall attached to the cheeks 3, or formed by molding thereon.

 The collar 10 extends over the greater part of the length of the cheeks 3 (FIG. 4) and on the upper wall 4 of the mask 1.

 The collar 10 has holes 11 also spaced apart and opening out towards the front (FIG. 4).

 The collector 9 is connected to the ends of the branches 12 of a double conduit formed like the collector 9 by one or more wall elements attached to the internal face of the wall 2 or formed by molding, an intermediate part 13 between the branches 12 communicating with the nozzle 14 in the vicinity of the lower edge 5 of the mask.

 Between the branches of the conduit 12 is mounted the conventional handle 15 fixed directly on the internal face of the front wall 2, of simple thickness.

 In service, most of the fumes from a weld made in front of the mask are absorbed by the transverse slot 7, while those which tend to pass laterally or above the mask are sucked through the holes 11 of the flange 10 .

 The mask according to the invention is not significantly heavier than a conventional mask, and the tests carried out have shown an efficiency much higher than that of known masks.

 1. Suction mask for welder, of the type comprising a shell provided with a window and a handle and having a connection nozzle with a suction pipe, characterized in that it comprises means (7, 8, 10 , 11) to collect the fumes, integrated into the shell and delimited with the latter by a double wall located at the location of said means and connected to said nozzle (5).  2. Mask according to claim 1, characterized in that said means for collecting the fumes consist firstly of a transverse collector (8, 9) opening into the front wall (2) of the mask by a transverse slot (7) and on the other hand by a peripheral flange (10) projecting outwards and connected to the opposite ends of said collector (8, 9), having holes (11) directed towards the front.  3. Mask according to claim 2, characterized in that said transverse slot (7) extends below the window (6), approximately in the middle of the height of the mask.  4. Mask according to claim 2, characterized in that said collar (10) extends around the upper part and the cheeks (3) of the mask.  5. Mask according to claim 2, characterized in that the collector (10) is connected to the nozzle (14) by the intermediate part (13) of a double conduit whose branches extend on either side of the handle (15) and are connected to said manifold (8, 9).  6. Mask according to claim 5, characterized in that the handle (15) is fixed inside the mask.  7. Mask according to any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that it is made of molded material and in that said manifold (8, 9), said flange and the double duct (12, 13) are delimited between the front wall (2), the cheeks (3), the upper wall (4) and elements added or molded inside the mask.
