Abstract

Process for curing and dyeing hides. It consists in soaking the hide in a bath of carnauba wax at 95 DEG and in keeping it in this bath for a period of time from 1 to 15 min. To give it its initial colour, it is soaked in a bath of methyl isobutyl ketone at 65 DEG for 5 min. or longer depending on the thickness and the nature of the hide. To obtain marbled tones, spread alcohol over the hide and spray the dyes and water using a brush or spray gun. Leave to dry in the air.

Description

Method for hardening and dyeing leather 1) Method for hardening all leathers of all thicknesses. (pig, snake, fish, bird, sheep, goat, calf, cow and horse).

The present process consists in soaking the leather in a CARNAUBA 95 wax bath and maintaining this temperature for the duration of the soaking, from 1 to 15 minutes depending on the nature of the leather and its thickness.

temple: for 1.5 mm calf bath time: 3 min
for 4.3 mm cylindrical cow leather: 7 min
the hardening will be done as soon as the leather is out of the carnauba wax bath by simple cooling. The carnauba wax thus penetrated into the leather will solidify inside the leather below Se.

The hardened leather will take on a brown color. To restore its natural color, it must be soaked in a solvent bath (methyl isobutyl ketone) at a temperature of 65 for 5 minutes (more or less depending on the thickness and nature of the leather), and then allowed to dry to obtain a definitive hardening, as well as its initial color.

If the shaping of the leather was not satisfactory, it is possible to partially or entirely re-soak the leather at the temperature of 95 in carnauba wax and to repeat the same operation.

2) Teintures :
2) Tinctures:
To obtain marble or elm burl tones, use alcohol shades (the same as those used in the shoe industry).

On peut si necessaire rehumidi- fier le cuir en projetant à nouveau de l'alcool. pass alcohol on the leather and before it is evaporated, project the different shades either using a brush or using a gun. At the same time spray water in the same way as for the colors. If necessary, the leather can be rewetted by spraying alcohol again.

Laisser secher à l'air libre ou à l'air froid. Leave to dry in the open air or in cold air.

3) Polissage :
3) Polishing:
If you want a shiny effect, use compact carnauba wax on a pad or beeswax (same principle as in the shoe industry).

For the best shine and protection of dyes, use the finishing varnishes used in the shoe or leather goods industry.

This petrified leather is generally dyed with all the dyes used in shoes and leather goods.
