Abstract

This panel consists of a fireproof fibrous insulating material sandwiched between two metal facings. According to the invention, a layer of organic putty (mastic) comprising between 50 and 78% of mineral fillers is inserted between each facing and the face of the fibrous insulating material which it covers, the said layer being tightly attached to the insulating material of each facing. This manufacturing method consists in covering by any means known per se, and in particular by coating, two facings made of steel sheet with a layer between 250 and 360 g/m<2> of an organic adhesive containing up to 78% of mineral filler, whose viscosity is optionally regulated at the time of use by adding a volatile solvent compatible with the nature of the said adhesive, in placing on these facings a mat of fireproof fibrous insulating material and in subjecting the assembly to a pressing operation at room temperature during the time necessary for the adhesive to polymerise.

Description

PANNEAU SANDWICH ISOLANT, INCOMBUSTIBLE
INSULATING SANDWICH PANEL, INCOMBUSTIBLE
AND OF GOOD MECHANICAL RESISTANCE
The present invention relates to an insulating, incombustible sandwich panel of good mechanical strength.

The building industry, for obvious safety reasons, is looking for materials and in particular non-flammable and preferably non-combustible insulating load-bearing panels. The center
Scientifique et Technique du Bâtiment (CSTB) has, for this purpose, developed a system for classifying materials according to their degree of fire resistance, in which the MO rating corresponds to the maximum rating that can be assigned to a perfectly incombustible material, the only one that can truly provide effective protection.

Certain types of insulating panels capable of being classified MO are already known; one can quote for example the composite panels made up of incombustible materials (rock wool or other), sandwiched between plates of fiber cement, the joining of the elements of the sandwich being ensured by glues based on silicate. However, these are not panels that can be used as cladding elements for industrial buildings made in a single height without horizontal joints or joint covers, or protective and finishing coating; at the most, they can be used as infill elements of reduced format or internal partitions.

Insulating composite panels whose mechanical properties are sufficient to allow their use in the construction field are currently made from rigid plastic foams (polyurethane foam type) or rock wool sandwiched between two metal facings, the securing of the assembly being ensured using organic adhesives.

However, it has so far not been possible, with sandwich panels of this type, to obtain materials with a fire resistance higher than the M1 rating of the C.S.T.B. ; this means that these materials, although not flammable, decompose under the effect of heat without producing flames and therefore cannot be qualified as incombustible.

The object of the invention is to produce insulating sandwich panels which have both good mechanical resistance allowing their use as load-bearing panels and perfect incombustibility corresponding to the MO rating of the C.S.T.B.

Thus, its object is an insulating sandwich panel consisting of an incombustible fibrous insulating material sandwiched between two metal facings and the originality of which consists in this. that a layer of organic mastic comprising between 50 and 78% mineral fillers is interposed between each facing and the face of the fibrous insulating material which it covers, said layer being closely integral with the insulating material and with each facing.

The organic mastic preferably consists of a polyurethane-based glue.

According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, the mineral filler is chosen from powders of kaolin clay, talc, plaster, dolomite or marble.

The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing a non-combustible insulating sandwich panel of good mechanical strength which consists in coating, by any means known per se and in particular by coating, two sheet steel facings with a layer lying between 250 and 360 g / m2 of an organic glue containing up to 78% mineral filler, the viscosity of which is optionally regulated at the time of use by adding a volatile solvent compatible with the nature of said glue, to be placed on these facings a mat of incombustible fibrous insulation and subject the assembly to pressing at room temperature for the time necessary for the polymerization of the adhesive.

The present invention will be better understood moreover and its advantages will emerge from the following description of two embodiments of the insulating sandwich panel according to the invention.

The single figure of the attached schematic drawing is a graph of the flexural strength of these two panels, the load (Kg / m2) being plotted on the ordinate and the span in meters on the absissa.

Exemple l
Example l
Facings in prepainted galvanized steel sheet 0.63 mm thick are coated by scraping with a layer of 350 g / m2 of a polyurethane adhesive, chosen from one of those marketed under the reference UK by the Henkel Company, to which 60% mineral filler of the kaolin clay type has been added; the viscosity of this adhesive is, if necessary, adjusted using a solvent compatible with the polyurethane resin used; trichlorethylene and ethyl acetate are well suited for this purpose.

A 60 mm mattress of 180 kg / m 3 rock wool is then placed on these facings and the assembly is subjected to a pressing force of about 3 tonnes / m 2 for 12 hours at room temperature.

Exemple 2
Example 2
The same operations as those described in Example 1 are carried out, but the rock wool mattress used has a thickness of 90 mm.

The flexural strength of the two panels thus obtained is excellent; it is illustrated by the graph attached to the present application which gives the overloads uniformly distributed for a deflection equal to 1/200 of the span between two supports.

The fire resistance of the two panels is MO, according to C.S.T.B. ; the K coefficient is 0.62 watt / mZ for a thickness of 60 mm and 0.42 wattim for a thickness of 90 mm.

Insulating panels are therefore available having both excellent flexural strength and total incombustibility which ensures them safe use in all areas of building and construction.

These panels can be used as cladding elements for industrial buildings made in a single significant height (eight meters, etc.) without horizontal joints or joint covers.

As goes without saying and as emerges from the foregoing, the invention is not limited solely to the embodiments described above by way of nonlimiting examples; on the contrary, it embraces all variants thereof, regardless of the nature and thickness of the fibrous insulation or of the metal facings.
