Abstract
The worm extruder is used to mould plastic masses, esp. ceramic masses, and the mould has a flange employed for joining the mould to a baseplate and a cover plate. The water channel is connected via slots to the mould cavity, the direction of the slots being at 90 degrees to the moulding direction of the ceramic mass. A spacer foil is pref. clamped between cover plate and the end of the mould, the foil possessing slots extending in a row round the entire periphery of the mould and connecting the mould cavity to channel. The cross-section of the bore of cover plate is pref. smaller than the cross-section of the inlet of the mould cavity. The excessive addn. of water is avoided, but the high viscosity of the ceramic mass prevents its penetration into slots.
