Abstract

An automatic gas burner is for domestic cooking ovens and comprises a first thermo-electric device (11) spaced from the principal burner (13). A subsidiary burner (31) heats the first device (11). A second thermo-electric device (12) is arranged to be heated by the burner (13) alone. Circuitry (44) supplies current from either the first or second device to a safety valve (10) in the gas conduit (14) to the burner (13). A time-controlled valve (41) in the conduit (14) has a switch (32) for actuating ignition of burner (13) on operation of valve (41) to allow gas to be fed to burner (13) and preventing the device (11) from supplying current to valve (10).
