Abstract

The speed limitation mechanism operates a brake etc. having a pulley driven by a rope connection to the moving load e.g. a lift. The pulley rotates on a spindle in a bearing and has a closed cam track extending round and spindle in which a roller works on the end of a mounting adjustable in opposition to a spring on the bearing. A lug on the mounting is brought into the path of other lugs on the pulley when a predetermined pulley speed is exceeded by the action of the cam track so as to lock the pulley. A safety switch indicates that locking has taken place and can be returned by an actuator to the starting position. A securing device holds the mounting (38) independently in the locking position once this has been reached typically in the form of a catch.
