Abstract

Composite panels of approximately rectangular form for use while supported by the ends are made of resin-impregnated fibreboard moulded to define surface channels in which crossed arrays of wooden slats can be nested to reinforce the panel. Used esp. for mfr. of hinged rear panels for bench seats in estate cars or hatch-backs, to reduce weight and drumming of use of pressed steel panels. Upholstery may be fixed to the panel by clips, rivets or adhesives. The impregnating resin is described as a high stiffness resin.
