Abstract

A baby's napkin consists of an inner porous layer and an outer impermeable layer between which an absorbent layer is enclosed. By folding a rectangular piece of this material and using adhesive at certain points, this can be shaped into a cup-shaped part to fit around the baby's back, a similar cup-shaped part to fit around the front, and a narrow centre part to join the two. Adhesive strips can be used to keep the napkin closed once it has been wrapped around the baby, with enough space on the sides for the legs, where the material selvedge is reinforced by an elastic strip. Such a throwaway napkin can be produced at low costs, yet fits the shape of a baby very snugly.
