Abstract

The special press clamps a semiconductor (30) between its preassembled emitters, having a manual micrometer screw (19) with which the precise clamping force is set and controlled. Clamping is effected by jacking (10) a slide (11) vertically towards a fixed overhead jaw (14), the moving jaw (13) being incorporated on the head of the slide. A closed rectangular sub-frame (1-4) with an intermediate beam (5) provides support, the head of the slide passing through the beam and the fixed jaw being mounted on the top rail (4). A pressure-indicator (16) is coupled to the top jaw, the head of the slide being threaded (18) to receive the screw. Wedges (26, 27) displaced by sec. jacks (24, 25) are used to chock the screw off the beam after the application of initial pressure, the screw then being rotated until the precise required force is registered.
