Abstract
The overhead electric traction power wire or rail (5) has a servo driven pickup (6) which moves in the direction of traction and which reduces the drag on the pickup. The pickup is linked to the vehicle (1) by a flexible cable. The servo drive reduces contact wear and enables good traction efficiency to be achieved. The power rail (5) may be an 'H' or 'I' section with one part embedded in the roof and the other part projecting. The pickup runs on the projecting part of the rail using wheels.
