Abstract

An appts. allowing conservation of IR radiation emitted by solar energy and giving high temps. in solar energy collectors incorporates cells made of very thin glass and hexagonal in shape, identical to one another, arranged side by side over a collecting surface. Infra-red rays which would otherwise escape strike the walls of the cells and the air contd. in them and cannot escape. In comparison with existing collectors, in which equilibrium is reached at about 100 degrees C, the appts. allows the temp. in the interior of the collector to rise to 200-250 degrees C. The cells resist wear and heat well, they give total fluid tightness between them, they weigh little and are resistant to chemical attack. the process can be used in a collector which is horizontal, vertical, oblique, incurved or which incorporates a parabolic reflector.
