Abstract

The structural member may be used in building construction, is of reinforced concrete and incorporates the reinforcement in the form of a steel plate (1) which is glued (4) to the plane tensile faces of the member (3). The plate (1) has a grid of perforations (2) which are designed to prevent the trapping of air bubbles in the glue (4) during the bonding phase. The perforations (2) also provide "tell takes" as to the penetration and quality of the glue and may occupy from 3 to 8% of the transverse section of the plate (1). Pressure is applied to the plate during the bonding phase and adjustably by menas of a sac filled with liquid under pressure. The sac applies pressure to the entire surface of the plate and may be located between two boards with compressible lathes between lines of perforations (2).
