Abstract

The automatic opening and closing actuator for gates uses an hydraulic cylinder (7) moves the gate (6) about the pivotal axis in two directions simultaneously. The directions are determined by a slide (4) which is shaped to cause an initial disengagement of the latch (8) and a subsequent simultaneous lifting and pivoting of the gate (6). The actuator allows an effective closure to be achieved by a single push or pull on the handle (11) and allows the gate to clear an obstacle in its path.
