Abstract

The piezoelectric crystal resonator for a watch comprises a rectangular quartz crystal (1) supported at its four rounded corners on an insulating base (2). The latter is received to provide a free space (8) beneath the crystal except at the crystal corners where a (12) at each corner is secured to a conductor layer (4) at each support location on the base by, e.g. soldering, ultrasonic welding or adhesive. The upper and lower surface central areas of the crystal are metallised (10,20) to provide electrical contacts, the metallisation having bridge portions (11) connecting with respective ones of two diametrically opposed corner metallisations of the crystal. The associated base conductor layers serve as external contacts. An insulating wall (3) surrounds the crystal and is sealed to a cover (6).
