Abstract

The pick-up head comprises an elevating conveyor (1) mounted in front of the machine. This conveyor has side chains running over drive sprockets (2), these being linked by transverse bars. In front of this is an auxiliary conveyor (5), this being in the form of a belt similar to that for the elevating conveyor. This belt runs over an upper drive sprocket (6), its lower end running round fixed sprockets (7) and movable sprockets (8). The section of belt (9) between these latter sprockets contacts the surface roots (10) and guides them onto the elevating conveyor.
