Abstract

The appts. includes a carriage (1) mounted inside a long box (2) on wheels (3) which run along conductive rails (4). An electromagnet (5) mounted on the carriage comprises a winding (6) formed on a core (7) which consists of soft iron rods. The ends of the core (7b) are rounded. The electromagnet is supplied with alternating current at about 60 Hz through the rails and wheels. The inside of the box is about three times the length of the electromagnet. At each end of the box is a small window (8) covered with material which is permeable to the magnetic field, aligned with the magnet core. The carriage is moved in its box by a threaded shaft (9) extending along the box, with a nut (10) in a support (11) moving along the shaft as it rotates. A motor (13) is provided to drive the shaft to move the carriage. The area to be treated is placed in contact with one of the box windows.
