Abstract

A filter, partic. one used in medicine for filtering physiological fluids, comprises an elongated recipient with vertical flow of the fluid being filtered, e.g. blood, between inlet and outlet connections opening vertically respectively at the top and bottom of the receiver. The connections are disposed on either side of a filter set including a screen dividing the receiver vertically. The filter set includes pref. several screens parallel and sepd. from one another, having different void dimensions diminishing progressively from one to another, the coarsest and the finest being on the sides respectively of the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet. The invention overcomes difficulties associated with existing filters of its kind resulting mainly from blockage of the filter which obstructs rapidly the blood passage and greatly reduces the flow. The selectivity obtd. gives opt. filtration efficiency for a small constant pressure drop.
