Abstract

The speed regulator for the car comprises a telescopic element (10) in the throttle linkage. This element is normally locked into a fixed length by an electo-magnetically operated bolt (27). This enables the vehicle to be driven normally. If the drier requires the vehicle to maintain a set speed he first accelerates to that speed. Then he pressed a control button which releases the telescopic lock. An electronic control then takes over. Theis compares the actual speed with the set speed and generates correction signals for the servo element (15) which controls the throttle setting. To cancel the speed regulator the pedal is depressed to reach an end stop switch (27). This enables the driver to override the setting in order to accelerate past a vehicle.
