Abstract

Crude petroleum can be treated in electrodehydrators for desalination and dehydration. An automatic control is effected by changing the crude oil-to-industrial water ratio which is measured by separate flow meters. The pulse control includes two amplitude selectors at the output of a differentiator, and two pulse counters on the amplitude selector outputs to feed a programmed time relay. The pulse counters also feed positive and negative correction pulse shapers to keep the control within limits which ensure that there is no flashover between the electrodes. The control system ensures stable operation at any fluctuations of the oil/water ratio. The optimum sequence is determined automatically for various grades of crude oil and the desalination/dehydration process is maintained at a better efficiency.
