Abstract

The generator is turned by two co-axial and co-planar rotors (1, 2) turning counter to each other on a shaft. The shaft is formed as a hollow drum and carries a number of windings distributed evenly on its outer periphery. The shaft is supported by bearings carried by the framework of an aerodynamic balloon able to support its own weight and that of the generator and relevant equipment. The balloon is anchored to either a hemispherical ground weight (15) containing slip rings to collect the generated current, or a float should the generator be used at sea. The anchor lines contains universal joints (13) to give three independent movements to compensate for change of wind direction. The balloon is equipped with tail fin and side rudders (16, 17) to keep the balloon facing the prevailing wind.
