Abstract
The safety and fault-locating system is for mechanical lifts such as ski-lifts. There is an outward and a return safety line, with opening contracts and stop buttons in series. A current from a stable source flows through the line, remaining constant as long as resistance does not vary. Faults causing current variation are detected by a galvanometer, the needle of which is fixed to a disc moving in front of opto-electronic detectors. At each opening contact except the first there are adjustable resistances between the outward and return lines. The values of these resistance are chosen so that, depending on the contact opened, the galvanometer disc places itself opposite the corresponding detector, which works in conjunction with a fault-locating circuit. A time delay is provided, so that movement of the disc past the other detectors does not activate any of the other locating circuits.
