Abstract

An expansible wall fastener plug consists of a core (1) of elastic material of roughly square section (6) with two diametrically opposite arms (2) and two shorter arms (5). The core (1) has a central hole (3) with a diameter slightly less than that of a fastener screw, and there are two diametrically opposite slots (4) running the length of the core (1). The core fits between two semi-cylindrical members (7), (8) forming two halves of a plug and provided with a serrated outer surface. When a screw is fitted into the hole (3) the core (1) is expanded and this, in turn, presses the two members (7) (8) against the surface of the hole in the wall and provides a secure fixing. Alternative designs use a plug made in three or four segments.
