Abstract

Multilayer material, used partic. for mfg. seals or caps for containers such as plastic bottles, contains (a) a metallic sheet, e.g. of al, 40-60 mu thick, and (b) a polyolefin layer, pref. 5-60 mu thick. Layers (a) and (b) are joined together by a layer (c) of a graft copolymer, pref. 1-30 mu thick. The graft copolymer is pref. a polyolefin, e.g. polyethylene and/or polypropylene, grafted by acrylic acid and/or methacrylic acid. The polymer layer (b), which is pref. of polyethylene or polypropylene, is pref. >=3 times thicker than layer (c) of graft copolymer. The multilayer material is partic. suitable for forming sealing caps for bottles contg. liq. prods. such as sterilised milk, fruit juice. The sealing cap is easily pulled off by hand from the neck of the container, and can be used to close the container again after use.
