Abstract

The system comprises of two pole pieces of high magnetic permeability with an air gap between them, the pole pieces being joined together by a laminated anisotropic magnetic circuit. The permeability is a max. in the direction of the lines of magnetic field force, each lamina being parallel to the lines of force. The system has partic. applications to magnetic lenses and electronic magnetic lenses, in which the air gap is a function of the focalisation of a beam of electrons.
