Abstract

Pyridine carboxylic acids of formula (I) and their lower alkyl esters, amides, mono- or dialkylamides, hydrazides tetrazides and their N-oxides are new. In the formula, R1 and R2 are H, lower alkyl or alkoxy; R3 is H, lower alkyl or aralkyl; R4 is H, lower alkoxy or alkylthio, halogen, amino, mono- or di-lower alkylamino, or phenyl, which may be substd. by one or more lower alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, halogen, CF3, CN, carboxy or phenoxy gps.; n is 1-7 q is 0 or 2, n-q being positive; and where all hetero-atoms and double bonds in the gp. on position 5 of the ring are sepd. from each otyer by >=2C atoms. (I) are hypotensives and antihypertensives. A typical cpd. (I) is methyl 5-(m-chlorobenzylamino)pyridine-2-carboxylate, m. pt. 111-113 degrees C.
