Abstract

The maize feeder for a harvester, comprises two sets (32, 33) of rotary star wheels (37) which are arranged to co-operate in the manner of meshing gear wheels but without coming into contact. The stems (1-4) are engaged by the arms (38) of the star wheels. In each set the wheels are driven in synchronism and are spaced along their axes, but cooperating wheel pairs are in the same plane. The wheels are driven by meshing gear wheels enclosed in oil baths. The rotary cutters (16a, 17a) are mounted on the shafts (5, 9) and cooperate with a fixed counter blade. The upper ends of the shafts (5, 9) carry rotary members which cooperate to slow the upper ends of the stems. The arms (38) may be convex, trapezoidal or triangular.
