Abstract

The parent patent, glass and ceramic prod. are made using mining and metallurgical waste materials or ores rich in iron oxides, contg. as essential constituent SiO2 a and CaO, and are combined to form wallastonite. In this addn. industrial wastes other than the above mentioned "red waste" capable of vitrification, are used, such as coal mining schists, fly ash, zinc slag, lead slag and red mud from Al2O3 or TiO2 prodn. The glass and ceramic products contains 10-50 wt.% SiO2, 10-40% CaO, 3-40% iron oxides, 1-15% Al2O3, 0-60% T2O2, 0-15% Na2CO3, 0-40% blast furnace slag and 0-40% sodium felspase or phonolite. Used as massive materials or coatings on metallic or non-metallic substrates, esp. in the form of a metal tube with the vitreous coating prestressed. Specifically claimed uses are as silencers for automobiles, sealed fluid ducts, washing machine drums, etc.
