Abstract

The thermal or cryogenic treatment plant may be used in the freeze-drying of food or pharmaceutical products, and inc. a sampling unit. The plant comprises a hermetically sealable chamber (1) which may receive trays of bottles cont g. produce for treatment. The sampling unit inc. a mechanical handling arm and is able to select and remove a random bottle without disturbing the hermetic seal. The tray may be displaced horizontally within the camber, sliding on rails, and moved by a motorised belt-screw and worm mechanism. The handling arm cantilevers radially from a vertical, mobile and rotatable shaft. The shaft slides telescopically in a sleeve and is operated by an external hand-wheel. The handling arm may include a pick-up head. The head automatically grips the top of a bottle, and also seals the top of an egress duct (31) into which the sample is deposited for removal.
