Abstract

The Starter motor for internal combustion engines, has a simple form of construction reducing the overall size of the motor, esp. the motor shaft displacement mechanism volume. The starter solenoid, mounted on one side of the motor itself has a piston which carries a hook shaped extension seated in a recess. The hook pulls on an elongated 'U'shaped sprung lever, the opposite end of which acts in the opposite direction to move the motor shaft axially. The sprung lever is itself trapped within a rectangular clip maintaining the lever shape and position. The action of the solenoid moves the pinion (4a) forward to engage the corresponding toothed wheel on the i.e. engine.
